Encyclopaedia of the Impossible: David Gilbert with Save the Family and Knutsford Academy

David Gilbert, Curator in Residence at Tatton Park Biennial, engaged two groups to develop their critical approaches and responses to contemporary art through discussion, tours and making. The resulting Encyclopaedia of the Impossible, details the processes of the project.

Gilbert worked with a group of young people supported by Save the Family to develop a film and site-specific installation in the group’s shed, inspired by Tessa Farmer’s Cosmic Cloud and the architecture and landscape of Tatton Park.

Knutsford Academy also contributed to the Encyclopaedia, with twenty Year 8 pupils exploring the work in the Biennial and considering how artists addressed the theme. Encouraged to respond creatively to the title, Flights of Fancy, pupils produced work in a variety of media, which was exhibited at the Academy.
