Curated by Jeanice Brooks, University of Southampton, 'Flights of Sound' presents an extravagant ending to the 2012 Biennial.

Contemporary harpsichordist Jane Chapman will join forces with guitarist Tom McKinney, pianist Harvey Davies and the Ensemble Pleyel during the final Biennial weekend. Taking inspiration from Aura Satz's Music Room installation, the musicians will treat the entire house as sounding frame for an exploration of new and old musical fantasy.

The programme features a new collaboration between Jane Chapman and Aura Satz
and world premieres of works by composers Larry Goves and Leo Grant, as well as eighteenth-century music from Tatton Park’s outstanding historic musical collection.

On Sunday 1 July, the Biennial curators will take a tour of the site with visitors and aviation historian Jim Rait will lead a tour of the Parkland, focussing on its legacy of experimental and military flight. The estate's last Lord Egerton was a flying enthusiast and had his own airstrip on the site. During World War II, nearly 400,000 descents were made at Tatton by troops preparing for deployment into occupied Europe, under the direction of what would become No 1 Parachute School.
